The Chartered Institute of Social Work Practitioners of Nigeria (C-ISOWN) is an Institute established by Act No. 25 of 2022 as a regulatory and professional body charged with the mandate of regulation, setting of standard and control of the profession of Social Work in Nigeria.
Social Workers are professionals, trained specifically in social work disciplines to build partnerships among other professionals working within the field of psychosocial intervention, caregivers and families; collaborating with the community, usually with the goal of creating supportive environments for service-users, advocating for adequate service, treatment models and resources; changing social policy to address issues of poverty, employment, housing and social justice; and supporting the development of preventive programmes for the less privilege. Social workers focus on early intervention, treatments, and post treatment with individuals, groups and the general public through education, advocacy and improving access to services, resources and information.
