Nigeria is currently experiencing a wide range of social issues and problems which are associated with the growth and development of similar nations in terms of civilization and urbanization. This has called for specialized programmes of professional interventionists to deal appropriately with the resultant issues. This programme is designed to respond to the personnel need to address these issues and the gaps created. Graduates of this programme will assist practitioners professionally competently in the field of Social Work to cope with the overwhelming challenges of social problems experienced in our community and also provide a steady flow of junior technical manpower. The programme curriculum is specifically designed to provide students with practical skills to enable them engage directly and practically in work technicalities in various social service agencies and settings throughout Nigeria, and also assist in providing relevant social intervention.
Admission Requirements
1. At least credit passes in five subjects, including English Language, Mathematic, Biology/Health Science and any social science subjects at the SSCE level.
2. Grade II Teachers’ Certificate with at least five subjects in the combination above at Merit level.
3. Mature candidates (30 years and over) with experience and qualification in other professions such as Nursing, Youth Leadership, Prison Service, Police Force, the Armed Forces, Refugee Work, who may not have all the requisite academic qualifications but stand to benefit from the course, and individuals in need of social work training to function in their present job placements. Such candidates must have credit passes in any three subjects, including English Language at the SSCE level and evidence of employment.
