Doctor of Social Work (DSW)

The Doctor of Social Work is a professional doctoral qualification run by The College of Social Work (the training arm of the Chartered Institute of Social Work Practitioners of Nigeria) and awarded under the approval of the Joint Council. It draws on the existing experience of social workers in practice with a good Masters degree in social work for the award. Candidates are expected to have been in practice and involved in an outstanding social work research, project, programmes, cases, or activities that can be documented and defended. The Doctor of Social Work (DSW) programme admits qualified domestic students (Nigerian citizens or permanent residents) and international (Visa) students. The Doctorate degree is also useful for further study for holders of academic PhDs in relevant fields that are interested in core social work concern or consulting. This programme is unique and combines both professional and academic rigour towards the production of graduates with strong pedigree and status as Social Work Consultants, Researchers and Scholars. Core strength for participants will include strong grounding in social case consulting, research, practice excellence and presentations. It will also equip and impact graduates with strong skills in consulting, academic, professional practice and grounded in research concerns in international social work.
