The concept and practice of Social Work in Nigeria is gaining wide patronage given the growth of democracy and the need to deliver dividends to the citizenry. The recent growth of Non Governmental Organizations, Civil Society Groups, Wives of Governors Projects and the establishment of various funds as well as social service Institutions by Local Government Authorities, States and International Development Projects such as DFID, USAID, CIDA, SWIDA, etc. has created strong demand for trained Social Work Professionals to man core intervention positions but the supply is grossly inadequate. Also the government employment of graduates of any field to man core Social Work positions in all States and Local Government Areas without realistic results are pointers to the need to invest the training of competent professionals to fill this obvious gap. Graduates of this programme have a wide employment opportunity both in the Government and the private sector as well as practicing on their own as consultants after due registrations. This training will create a steady supply for technical level manpower in Social Work which is almost in a state of non existence. 

Admission Requirements

1. National Diploma in the Social Science/Diploma in Social Work from ISOWN or any recognized institution or in related specialization and;

2. At least credit passes in five subjects, including English Language, Mathematic, Biology/Health Science and any social science subjects at the SSCE level or;

3. National Certificate in Education (NCE) with at least five subjects in the combination above at Merit level.
