The purpose of the Social Work field practicum is to provide the students with the experience of developing graduate-level Social Work skills, in a Social Work practice setting, under the supervision and mentorship of experienced practitioners. The Professional Post Graduate Social Work Practicum has one option – Field Practicum!

From the first semester, Students are introduced to a self-initiative form of practicum known as Know your Neighborhood Exposure Programme (KYNEP), Students on personal level at the beginning of study get self-interactions with Ministries, Departments, Agencies, non-governmental and developmental partners organizations around their communities or States by interfacing with some critical Agencies that have holding or no holding capacity for Student’s on practicum at the end of first semester and at the beginning of second semester students are required to have interfaced enough to getting a place of interest for Field Work Practicum of not less than 150hrs each.

During the second semester field work practicum, the student is expected to handle and manage at least six (6) cases under supervision on which the field practicum report is made.  The field practicum is to be carried out under the direct supervision of the professional staff of the agency and visiting supervisor(s) who are representatives from the Institute. During supervisory visit, a case conference is to be held with the student, the immediate agency supervisor and other staff of the agency during which a sample of cases handled by the student is reviewed and the student is evaluated. The essence of the exercise is to ensure that students are familiar with and are capable of providing quality professional service at the end of their programme wherever they are employed.

Students at the beginning of the programme are required to interface with the Practicum Placement Coordinator for guidance through the process and ensuring that all necessary fees are paid and necessary documents (practicum manual, logbook, mobilization letter and confidentiality form) studied, completed and downloaded as appropriate where necessary for compliance.
